American citizen in Japan wants Chinese friend to visit?

I am an American citizen living in Okinawa, Japan. I would like my friend in China to visit me in Okinawa. What kind of visa and what information am I going to need to give my friend? I've looked all over the internet and I've looked at the Japanese emby website, and I've found no information that could really help me. Can anyone help? Thanks!
