Genetic problems in inbreeding a purebred pedigree cat?
By definition, creating unique traits through selective breeding to generate a new cat breed (or dog breed) entails inbreeding. Sadly, many breeders are more interested in making money that breeding healthier animals so inbred genetic problems are prevalent in many purebred lines, particularly if a breeder is only cross breeding their own breeding stock. Some of the common genetic problems are well known and some are less known. A pedigree only defines the blood lines, it doesn't guarantee a healthy animal or one that is not the result of inbreeding. Only deal with reputable breeders if you're going to get a "purebred" cat. Understand that a "purebred" cat is probably genetically inferior to a mixed breed cat and is always going to be prone to more health issues.
