Things to do in Crete,Greece?

Apart from beaches there are some very interesting archealogical sites of the Minoan era. There are also some delightful fishing villages with tavernas and if you are feeling energetic a spectacular walk through the Samaria Gorge. It is a lovely island, but it is quite big. I loved it - it's the real Greece (away from the package tour resorts).
