Is it just me, or do fly fishermen seem closed minded?
I've just started fly fishing, and the internet has been an invaluable rescource for me in learning the art of fly fishing. But I've noticed, that when I google carp flies, I still get websites for brown trout flies, there I haven't found a single insect hatch chart for the southern states. I saw a blog refer to people who fly fish for carp as "people who chug beer through funnels at monster truck rallies" While I don't chug beer through funnels, I frequent monster truck rallies and I fly fish for carp. I posted a question on another site about effective carp flies and for several weeks, people posted on my question about how carp is a trash fish, and I'm giving a bad name to fly fishing, someone should soak my fly rod in gasoline, light it on fire and shove it up my ***, and many others. While impressed by the creativity of these insults, I wondered to myself "why are these people so angry at the fact that I want to catch carp on a fly rod?" the reasons I've heard range from "it's not possible" to "carp aren't a game fish, and therefore should not be fished for. Does anyone else have any Ideas as to why "traditional" fly fisherman are such royal d*cks? (at least over the internet.)
