Cut hand at Wal-mart.?

I cut my hand at work four months ago. It is still very sore and aches all the time. The doctor said it will probably not get any better as I probably cut into the bank of nerves in my hand. It was a very deep cut. Wal-mart says they do not pay settlements for hand lacerations. Does this sound fair since I will have trouble working in this job (unloading trucks and stocking grocery shelves) and even if I did office work it would be a problem because it even hurts to type because of where I cut my hand. Can a company decide what they are going to pay for?
